An article in Malaysia Today commented that "Gore's comments constituted a none-too-subtle attack on Malaysia's Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and more generally on governments, including Japan, that resist US demands for further market reforms." علق مقال في ماليزيا اليوم قائلاً أن "تعليقات آل جور تشكل هجومًا غير دقيق على رئيس وزراء ماليزيا مهاتير محمد وبشكل عام على الحكومات بما في ذلك اليابان التي تقاوم المطالب الأمريكية بإجراء المزيد من إصلاحات السوق".
